THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Senior leader Shobha Surendran said that she is happy in appointing former union minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar as the BJP state president. She said that Rajeev Chandrasekhar will lead the BJP with accuracy. Shobha Surendran was talking to the media about the new leadership of the party.
'I am very happy to see the new leadership. The BJP is a party that is taking on the role of the real opposition. The Congress is presently unable to wage a strike against the drug abuse in Kerala. We will take on all issues with great force and work. Rajeev Chandrasekhar is not a new person in the party. He had served as the union minister. He lost the last election by a very small margin. He will lead the party forward with great accuracy. There is a time for a change of leadership. That is what has happened now. He will lead the movement in a good way,’ responded Shobha Surendran.
Meantime, Rajeev Chandrasekhar has filed his nomination papers for the post of BJP state president. Two sets of papers were filed. The official announcement will be made tomorrow. He submitted his nomination papers along with prominent leaders of the state.
Rajeev had faced a tough fight against Shashi Tharoor in the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency in the last Lok Sabha elections. He lost by 16,077 votes. The party presented him as the face of developmental politics in the changing times. Therefore, he was able to win votes beyond party politics. After reaching the Rajya Sabha thrice from Karnataka, this was the first time he sought the mandate in Kerala. He performed well in it.
