KALPETTA: The properties of the Kozhikode natives caught with 1.25 kilos of MDMA will be confiscated. The car of the first accused, Shamnad (44) of Puthupady has been confiscated. A report has been sent to the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators Authority to confiscate the car and bike of the second accused, Ashkar of Engapuzha.

The two were caught with MDMA on August 6 last year by the district anti-narcotics squad and Bathery police. They bought the drug from Bengaluru. They tried to smuggle it by hiding the drug in the cabin of the lorry driver.

ADGP Manoj Abraham, who is in charge of law and order, had recently directed the SPs to confiscate the properties of drug distributors and sellers. All properties of drug accused can be confiscated. He had also clarified that the responsibility will be on the accused to prove that these were not acquired through the drug trade.

The ADGP had also assessed that the number of drug seizures has increased compared to last year. He directed that there should be a thorough investigation into drug cases and that attention should be paid to prevent the drug mafia from gaining a foothold in educational institutions.

The properties of P K Khan (Shaiju Khan, 41) of Alappuzha Nooranad Puthupallykunnam Khan Manzil, were confiscated. The order was to seize 17.5 cents of property and a house in his name. Shyju Khan is an accused in seven ganja cases registered with Nooranadu Police, Nooranadu Excise and Alappuzha Excise Enforcement since 2020.
