NEW DELHI: The central government assured one of the next four AIIMS in the country to Kerala. This was announced by Union Health Ministry Senior Secretary Ankita Mishra during a meeting with Kerala's Special Representative in Delhi, Prof. K.V. Thomas.

Special funds will be given to the state for the renovation of Sree Chitra Institute and the Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha and Kozhikode Medical Colleges.

A team from the Union Health Ministry will visit the site in Kozhikode, proposed by the Kerala government for AIIMS to assess its infrastructure, including road, rail and air transport facilities, and proximity to national highways. The team is likely to visit the site after the parliament session ends.

K.V. Thomas said that the Union Health Ministry has expressed interest in holding discussions with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan regarding AIIMS. Kerala House Additional Resident Commissioner Chetan Kumar Meena was also with K.V. Thomas during the meeting.
