‘Only pain and distress since we got married,’ Ranya’s husband files for divorce over her involvement in smuggling case 

BENGALURU: Jatin Hukkeri, husband of Kannada actress Ranya Rao arrested in a gold smuggling case, has reportedly filed for divorce. Jatin had revealed in a press meet convened the other day that he has decided to end their marriage and had filed for divorce.

‘I’ve been suffering from pain and distress since the day we got married. Today I have taken the decision to file for divorce,’ he said.

Ranya Rao, the adopted daughter of Karnataka DGP Ramachandra Rao, was arrested at the Bengaluru airport on March 3 with gold worth Rs 12.56 crore. The searches conducted found gold ornaments worth Rs 2.06 crore and Rs 2.67 crore in cash from the actress. The high court had stayed the move to arrest Jatin Hukkeri in the case. The high court's action was considering a plea filed by Jatin alleging that he was being summoned for questioning and insulting in connection with the case. The actress had travelled to Dubai 27 times in the last six months. Her husband was also investigated because he was with her on these trips.

Jatin Hukeri is an architect. Jatin and Ranya got married in a lavish ceremony at the Taj West End in Bengaluru last November. After that, the two settled in Bengaluru. Sources close to the couple said that they had not been on good terms for some time. Meanwhile, the court has rejected Ranya Rao's bail plea for the third time.
