KOCHI: The postmortem report has been released in the case of the woman from Perumbavoor, Ernakulam, who died during childbirth at a rented house in Malappuram. It was found that 35-year-old Asma died of blood loss during her fifth delivery. The postmortem report also states that the death would not have occurred if adequate care had been provided after delivery. The postmortem report will be handed over to the Malappuram police. The body has been handed over to the relatives.

Asma's first two deliveries were in the hospital and the next three at home. It is reported that Asma and her husband Sirajuddin used acupuncture treatment for the delivery. Asma gave birth at 6 pm on Saturday. Sirajuddin learned that his wife had died at 9 pm. Later, Sirajuddin took the body to his house in Perumbavoor. The police then shifted the body to the Perumbavoor Taluk Hospital. The baby is being treated at a private hospital in Perumbavoor.

Asma's family had told the police that Asma was not taken to the hospital even though she was in labour pains. It is reported that Sirajuddin did not allow his wife to be taken to the hospital even though she was in pain. He was a man of witchcraft and superstition and believed in Siddha Vaidyam.

Sirajuddin is a native of Alappuzha. The family lived in a rented house in Chattipparamba, Malappuram. The family moved into the rented house a year and a half ago. It is said that the locals were not even aware that the family had four children. Locals also say that Sirajuddin's wife used to come out only to drop the children off in the school bus. Although many have seen the children studying in class 9, class 2 and LKG, no one knew that there was another child there.
