ALAPPUZHA: About two hectares of land still need to be acquired in Alappuzha district for the National Highway development. In some areas where construction is ongoing, land must be acquired to ensure the road width reaches 45 meters. Of this, about 1.31 hectares is required in the Ochira-Kotankulangara reach. The additional land requirement came up due to differences between the initial project draft and the final survey.

An announcement to acquire the remaining land for the highway's completion will be made soon. Land acquisition is also needed for the Aroor-Thuravoor elevated road. In the Thuravoor-Paravur and Paravur-Kotankulangara sections, land acquisition is nearly finished. Although land is required for a flat complex at Nangyarkulangara Junction and for building ramps from the Alappuzha bypass flyover to the port, no official notification has been issued yet.

No final decision has been made about acquiring the flat complex at Nangyarkulangara. Initially, only part of the flat was to be acquired, but residents went to court. Following a High Court order, a study by Kozhikode NIT showed that partial demolition would damage other parts of the building. Therefore, the entire flat has been decided to be acquired. The Public Works Department values the flat at around Rs. 18 crore, but compensation will be paid at double that amount of Rs. 35 crore.
