OTTAPALAM: Union Minister of State Suresh Gopi visited Palat House in Ottapalam. Palat House is the ancestral home of Chettur Sankaran Nair, the first Malayali national president of the Indian National Congress.
The Union Minister made an unexpected friendly visit the other day and hinted vaguely about receiving instructions from the Prime Minister to visit the house of the revered leader. At a function held in Haryana some days back, the Prime Minister recalled the contributions made by Chettur Shankaran Nair to the country.
Suresh Gopi had a friendly conversation with Chettur’s granddaughter Malathi Nair, her daughter Janaki Nair, and close relatives. Suresh Gopi also visited the residence of Justice Chettur Shankaran Nair in Chandranagar, Palakkad. Suresh Gopi's visit comes amidst allegations of Congress ignoring Chettur.
Severe anger was palpable even within the family over the poor maintenance of the dilapidated Chettur memorial on the banks of the Bharathapuzha river in Mankara. The BJP's decision to hold a Chettur memorial on April 24 is expected to give headaches to Congress leadership in Palakkad.
