THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Pushing and shoving among Congress leaders at public events to appear in front of cameras has become a concern for the party, especially when such incidents are caught on camera. To address this, the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has asked General Secretary M. Liju to draft a code of conduct for leaders at public functions. This draft will be reviewed by senior leaders, finalized, approved by the KPCC executive, and then put into effect.
The move follows a recent incident at the inauguration of the Kozhikode District Congress Committee (DCC) office, where footage of leaders pushing and shoving was widely shared on social media, bringing embarrassment to the party. The party's official publication also criticized the behavior.
Currently, DCC presidents are responsible for deciding who attends events featuring senior party leaders, but these rules are often ignored. The new draft will include clear instructions on this matter, and strict disciplinary action may be taken against those who do not comply.
Leader of Opposition V.D. Satheesan commented that the party is not trying to enforce discipline through fear, unlike other parties. UDF Convener M.M. Hassan, who attended the Kozhikode event, remarked that he avoided the crowd and was therefore not seen in the media coverage.
