NEW DELHI: As efforts to finalise a bilateral trade agreement progress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with US Vice President J.D. Vance in New Delhi. Prime Minister Modi conveyed India's concerns regarding changes in US trade policies during discussions focused on strengthening India-US strategic cooperation. The bilateral trade agreement focuses on the welfare of the people of both countries.
This comes shortly after US President Donald Trump announced and temporarily suspended a broad tariff policy affecting about 60 countries, including India. The two leaders welcomed the progress in India-US relations and discussed efforts to enhance cooperation in energy, defence, and strategic technologies, as well as various regional and global issues of mutual interest. The Prime Minister conveyed his greetings to US President Trump. PM Modi said that he looks forward to President Trump visiting India later this year.
The Prime Minister personally received the US Vice President, his wife, Usha Vance and their three children, who arrived at PM Modi's official residence on Monday evening. In a video released by the Prime Minister's Office, PM Modi can be seen greeting Vance's son.
Vance, his wife Usha, and a group of US officials arrived in Delhi around 9:30 am on Monday for a four-day visit.
