KOTTAYAM: The preliminary post-mortem report in the Thiruvathukkal double murder case has confirmed that the couple died due to severe head injuries. Vijayakumar, owner of Indraprastha Hotel and a prominent businessman, and his wife Meera were found dead in their home earlier this morning. The report indicates that both victims suffered injuries inflicted with a sharp weapon. Vijayakumar also had injuries to his chest. The head injury caused severe bleeding.

Police suspect that a former domestic worker, a migrant labourer from another state, is behind the murders. While earlier reports suggested one person had been taken into custody for questioning, police have not officially confirmed this. A few months ago, Vijayakumar had dismissed the domestic worker due to behavioural issues. According to local residents, the worker was fired for allegedly stealing a phone.

CCTV cameras had been installed in the house. The accused fled after stealing the DVR (Digital Video Recorder) that stored the footage. Police suspect that the move was deliberate, as the accused, having previously worked in the house, was aware of the presence of the surveillance system. Kottayam SP Shahul Hameed stated that personal vengeance over being dismissed from employment could be the motive behind the murder.

The faces of Vijayakumar and Meera were found to be disfigured. There were weapon-inflicted injuries on their faces as well. Police stated that the bodies were found in a pool of blood. The bodies were discovered in two separate rooms of the house, and they were not clothed at the time of discovery.
