THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A school teacher, who had been in jail for over five months in connection with six POCSO cases, was granted bail after the complainants retracted their initial statements during trial proceedings. The Fast Track Special Court granted bail to Binoj Krishna, a teacher at a UP school in Thiruvananthapuram.

The case had been initiated based on complaints filed by the parents of several students, who alleged that the teacher had inappropriately touched the children with sexual intent. However, during the court proceedings, the students changed their testimonies, stating that their earlier allegations were made in a fit of anger.

The students made the revelation against the teacher during a school counselling session, prompting the students’ parents to approach the police. The Nemom police subsequently registered six separate cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Binoj Krishna had gone into hiding after the cases were registered. He was traced and arrested on November 11 from a lodge in Thiruvananthapuram using a mobile tower location tracking. Reports indicate that he attempted suicide upon realising he was about to be apprehended. He was hospitalised, given medical attention, and later taken into custody. The charge sheet in the case was filed within three months of his arrest.
