NEW YORK: As India steps up its countermeasures in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, Pakistan finds itself isolated at the UN Security Council. Pakistan, currently a non-permanent member of the 15-member Security Council, had requested a discussion on the Pahalgam incident on Monday. However, what was intended as a diplomatic move to garner international support against India ended up backfiring on Pakistan.
With India not currently present in the Security Council, Pakistan tried to seize the opportunity. However, it faced tough questions from other member states. Several members questioned the Pakistani representative about the involvement of the terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba in the Pahalgam attack. Allegations that Pakistan raised against India, including claims of being unfairly blamed for the attack, were dismissed by the council members.
Following discussions that lasted around 90 minutes, the Security Council urged Pakistan to resolve its issues with India through bilateral dialogue.
