ALAPPUZHA: Former minister and senior CPM leader G Sudhakaran revealed that there were anomalies in the Parliament elections. He said the postal ballots were opened, verified and fixed for the CPM candidate in the elections. He was speaking at a public function as part of the NGO Union state conference.
G Sudhakaran spoke about the parliamentary elections held 36 years ago in 1989. 'When K V Devadas, leader of CPM's service organization KSTA, contested in Alappuzha, I was the secretary of the election committee. Me and others opened the postal ballots, verified and fixed them. 15 percent of the votes of the members of the CPM service organizations were against Devadas. These were fixed.
The postal ballots given to us were verified and fixed. The votes of the service organizations often do not get completely to the party candidate. Don't think that if stuck them, we will not open, but opened. When you get a postal ballot for an election, don't do it to anyone else. "It doesn't matter if the Election Commission files a case against me in this incident," was G Sudhakaran's revelation. Devadas contested against Vakkom Purushothaman in the 1989 parliamentary elections. Vakkom Purushothaman was the winner with a majority of over a quarter of a lakh votes.
