THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Advocate Shyamili, who was attacked by her senior lawyer Bailin Das, has come forward requesting not to grant him bail. She said that if the court grants him bail, Bailin will influence witnesses and destroy evidence. The police caught him last night. He was taken into custody when the court was all set to consider his anticipatory bail plea today.
'I have full faith that justice has been obtained. He should not be granted bail. If he gets it, he will definitely influence the witnesses in the case and destroy evidence. It is not clear how many in the office will testify for me. The evidence is in my face. None from the bar association called me after that. I don’t know the decision taken in the general body.
There is no need to politicize this issue as the politicians have expressed their support for me. Some lawyers in the court are speaking for the accused and that is natural. Bailin Das has already admitted that he assaulted me. No one should experience the same act again. No one has the right to hit or harm anyone,' Shamili said.
Shyamili was brutally attacked by Bailin Das on Tuesday. Bailin went into hiding when the incident worsened. The police were under great pressure to arrest the accused. Bailin Das' wife was asked to appear in the station yesterday. The mobile phones of the lawyer's relatives were also examined.
To prevent Bailin from escaping, the police had constantly searched the houses of his relatives and friends and had visited them in person multiple times. After extensive investigations, the police were able to arrest Bailin Das only on the third day of the incident. A state-wide alert was issued to prevent him from leaving the state.
