THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM State Secretary M.V. Govindan stated that the party has nothing to say about the police case filed against senior leader G. Sudhakaran over his controversial remarks. He said that those who made the statements must face the legal consequences themselves and that the case should be handled as per legal procedures. When asked by media persons whether the party would support G. Sudhakaran in the legal process, Govindan responded, “Why should the party provide support in legal proceedings?”
Regarding Sudhakaran’s earlier claim that postal votes had been tampered with during the parliamentary elections, Govindan noted that Sudhakaran himself has already corrected that statement.
"The party has nothing more to add. Leaders like Sudhakaran should have been more cautious while making such statements. The CPM has never attempted to undermine democracy. The party has never supported any subversive activities — not in the past, not now, and never in the future,” he said.
He strongly criticised the remarks made by the BJP and RSS leaders against rapper Vedan and Colonel Sofiya Qureshi. "RSS leader N.R. Madhu's remark that Vedan's songs are artistic obscenities is sheer nonsense. These comments are indicative of the anti-minority and anti-Dalit stance followed by the Sangh Parivar. Referring to Sofiya Qureshi as a sister of terrorists is a suicidal remark. The BJP must clarify why no action has been taken against the minister who made a communal slur," Govindan said.
Regarding the case where a young lawyer was assaulted, Govindan clarified that the accused, Bailin Das, is not associated with the Left. He alleged that some people are trying to falsely link the accused with the Left for political reasons.
On the controversy involving MLA Jenish Kumar and the Forest Department, Govindan said the party has not yet discussed the matter. However, he expressed concern over the inappropriate behaviour of certain forest officials.
