WASHINGTON: The US Defense Intelligence Agency's (DIA) World Threat Assessment report mentioned India’s ongoing strife with neighbouring nations. According to the report, India considers Pakistan only as a “security concern” but is very serious about threats from China.

From the report:

Pakistan sees India as an existential threat and is therefore continuing efforts to modernize its military. Pakistan is also developing its nuclear weapons to compete with India's military achievements.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's special priorities in acquiring lethal weapons are meant to counter China and increase India's military prowess.

India has not responded to the report.

  • Pakistan is the largest recipient of Chinese economic, military, and technological assistance

  • Pakistani and Chinese militaries conduct more than one exercise every year

  • China has been playing a role in steadily increasing the nuclear and ballistic missile arsenals of Pakistan and North Korea for years

  • China's nuclear arsenal may have exceeded 600. It will exceed 1,000 by 2030

  • India and Pakistan are believed to have about 170 nuclear weapons each

  • Pakistan is also modernizing its short-range Nasr missile

  • India prioritizes expanding defence partnerships in the Indian Ocean and Indo-Pacific regions
