Heavy rains continue; holiday for educational institutions in seven districts including Ernakulam

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the wake of the ongoing heavy rains, district collectors have declared a holiday for educational institutions in five districts of Kerala tomorrow. The holiday has been declared in Kasaragod, Wayanad, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kannur, Idukki and Ernakulam districts tomorrow. In Kannur, a holiday has been declared for schools and other educational institutions except professional colleges. The holiday is also applicable to professional colleges in the other four districts.

Kasaragod

A red alert has been declared in Kasaragod district after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned of the possibility of very heavy rains in the district on June 16. This action is part of the precautionary measures taken to ensure public safety. In this situation, a holiday has been declared for all educational institutions including colleges, professional colleges, Kendriya Vidyalayas, tuition centres, madrasas, anganwadis and special classes in Kasaragod district on Monday, June 16.

Thrissur

As heavy rains continue in Thrissur district and an orange alert is in place, a holiday has been declared for all educational institutions including schools, professional colleges, Anganwadis, nurseries, and tuition centers in the district tomorrow (June 16) as a precautionary measure. There will be no change in the scheduled exams and interviews.

Wayanad

Due to the red alert declared in Wayanad district and the continued heavy rains, a holiday has been declared for schools, Anganwadis, religious institutions, tuition centers, and special classes in the district tomorrow (16/06/2025). (Not applicable to residential schools and residential colleges). Students should not go into water bodies, rivers, etc. Be safe.

Malappuram

Schools in Malappuram district will be closed tomorrow (June 16). Due to the continued heavy rains and the red alert declared in the district on June 16, District Collector V.R. Vinod has declared a holiday for all educational institutions including professional colleges in Malappuram district tomorrow (June 16). The holiday is also applicable to madrasas, tuition centers and anganwadis. The holiday is not applicable to examinations and residential educational institutions.

Kannur

Due to the red alert declared in Kannur district due to heavy rains and the continued heavy rains, it is hereby informed that a holiday has been declared for schools, anganwadis, religious education institutions and tuition centers in the district tomorrow (16/06/2025, Monday).
