TEHRAN: The Ministry of External Affairs said that the Indian Embassy in Iran has evacuated Indian students to safer places in the country. Around 1,500 students have been evacuated to safer places amid fears that the Israel-Iran conflict could escalate into war. Most of them are from Jammu and Kashmir.
"The security situation in Iran is being closely monitored. We are in constant touch with the Indian students for their safety," said External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal. "In some cases, students have been evacuated to safer places within Iran. Other possible options are also being explored," he clarified.
Most of the students are in the capital Tehran, Shiraz, and Qom. They are pursuing MBBS and other professional courses. Meanwhile, Iran launched a powerful missile attack on Israel from southern Gaza. Iranian missiles hit the port city of Haifa, causing a huge fire and explosion. Four people were injured.
The Israeli military shot down an Iranian fuel tanker 2,300 kilometers from Israel. Israel had warned that it would destroy the Iranian capital Tehran if it attacked again. The attack came amid renewed tensions. Around 230 Iranian citizens have died in the past four days. The vast majority of them are civilians. Meanwhile, Israel says that 10 people, including children, have died.
