THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across Kerala until Sunday, with central and northern districts expected to be the most affected. The intensified westerly winds are cited as the primary reason for the continued downpour.
An orange alert has been issued today for the districts of Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Malappuram, and Wayanad. A yellow alert is in place for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod.
The IMD has also warned of the possibility of flash floods in the hilly regions of Kasaragod, Kozhikode, Wayanad, and Kannur. In addition, sea incursions are likely along the Kerala coast. Residents living near riverbanks are urged to remain cautious, as water levels in rivers are expected to rise.
