Change in weather alert: People living in these districts should exercise caution, orange alert issued

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced the possibility of rainfall in Kerala over the next five days. Orange and yellow alerts have been issued in various districts. An orange alert has been issued for Kannur and Kasaragod districts on July 16, and for Idukki, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts on July 17. The forecast indicates the possibility of very heavy rainfall in isolated places. According to the IMD, very heavy rainfall refers to rainfall between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm within 24 hours.


Yellow alert:
July 13, 2025: Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod
July 14, 2025: Kannur, Kasaragod
July 15, 2025: Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod
July 16, 2025: Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad
July 17, 2025: Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad

Yellow alerts indicate the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall, which means 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain in 24 hours. Thunderstorms and lightning are also expected.

Public safety advisory:

  • People living in landslide- and flood-prone areas should relocate to safer places as advised by authorities.
  • People living near riverbanks and downstream of dams should remain alert and move if instructed by officials.
  • Those in disaster-prone areas must ensure relief camps are open in their locality and move there during daytime if needed. They may contact local government or revenue officials for assistance.
  • As strong winds are likely, those living in unsecured houses or homes with weak roofs must take extra care and move to safer buildings if necessary.
