THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government is preparing to close the investigation against Dr. Haris Chirakkal. Earlier, the principal and superintendent of the Medical College had said in a press conference that an unusual box was found in Dr. Haris’s room. The investigation is being dropped as this claim turned out to be false. At present, the public has begun to doubt the actions of the health department. Yesterday’s press conference has caused serious damage to the department’s reputation.
The health minister has assured the KGMCDA that no action will be taken against Dr. Haris. Representatives of the KGMCDA will hold discussions with the minister today. The organisation says there is no relevance in continuing the investigation into the missing equipment and instead, there should be a study on the facilities for doctors at the medical college. They have also demanded that such a study be carried out by an expert agency appointed by the government.
Meanwhile, after being on leave following controversies related to the medical college, Dr. Haris will return to duty today. He had taken medical leave for one week. The controversy arose after an inspection was carried out in Dr. Haris’s absence regarding missing surgical equipment.
Later, the principal and superintendent claimed a box was found under mysterious circumstances, but this statement was later proven false. Officials now believe that the press conference itself became unnecessary. In this context, the DME’s report will be submitted on Monday.
