VIZHINJAM: An employee of the Azhimala Shiva temple died tragically due to electrocution from the water pressure gun, used for cleaning floors. Vellarada Dalumugham native Rahul Vijayan (26), son of Vijayakumar and Sindhu Vijayan, died in the incident. The incident took place at 10 pm on Friday. Rahul was the assistant to the chief priest of the Azhimala Shiva temple. According to police, Rahul might have been electrocuted while cleaning the moss on the floor using the water pressure gun.
The temple security guard, who noticed excessive water flowing out, went inside to turn off the motor and saw Rahul lying on the floor. It was noticed that one side of his hand was burned due to an electric shock. Immediately, temple officials, including others, took Rahul to a private hospital, but his life could not be saved. Rahul has been an employee in the temple for the last 6 years. Officials from the forensic, KSEB and Electrical Inspectorate departments arrived and inspected the place and the pressure gun used for cleaning.
Azhimala Shiva temple Devaswom Trust President S. Rajendran said that the temple trust would consider providing financial assistance to Rahul’s parents. A decision in this regard will be taken after the general meeting of the trust members to be held on the 24th. Rahul was working hard to earn enough money to marry off his sister. Rahul’s parents are kidney patients.
A purification process has already been initiated in that temple. The shrine will be open from today.
