KAZHAKUTTAM: A youngster died tragically after a jeep crashed into the pillar of the elevated highway at Kazhakuttam on the national highway. Four people, including two young women, are continuing in critical condition. The Mahindra Thar jeep got involved in an accident at 11:45 p.m. on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Shibin RS (27), son of Rameshan of Thempammoodu Balaramapuram.
Rajneesh (28), a native of Pongumoodu, Kiran, a native of Marayamuttam, Akhila (24), a native of Marayamuttam, and Sreelakshmi (23), a native of Thiruvallam, were seriously injured. The injured have been admitted to the Medical College Hospital.
The accident involved a new jeep purchased four months ago in the name of Shibin's wife, Athira. Shibin and his friends run a company called Emerline Infotech in Balaramapuram. The accident occurred while they were en route to put up an advertisement for a new company they are starting in Pothencode. Police suspected that the accident had been caused by racing. Other cars were seen racing on the same road at the time of the incident.
The jeep, which was coming from Chackai to Kazhakuttam, met with an accident on the bypass road near Technopark. A car that was trailing the jeep came forward by overtaking from the left side. Shibin suddenly swerved the jeep to the right. Those present inside the jeep told the police that the jeep lost control at this moment and crashed into a pillar on the divider. Rajneesh's right femur was broken in the accident. He also suffered a cut on the right side of his forehead and an injury to his chest. Shibin died on the spot. The front of the jeep was destroyed in the accident. The police and locals jointly carried out the rescue operation. Shibin has a one-and-a-half-year-old child.
After the death of his father, Ramesh Kumar, Shibin was shouldering the responsibility of his family's affairs. The shocking death of the youngster has left the family in gloom. Relatives said that Shibin, a popular name among locals in his hometown, was unlikely to race on the road.
