KOCHI: Aluva cyber police have registered a case on the complaint of CPM leader KJ Shine, who alleged that a slander campaign was being carried out against her on social media. Police recorded her statement from her house in Paravur, and the process lasted for more than an hour.
The accused in the case are local Congress leader CK Gopalakrishnan and YouTube channel owner KM Shajahan, who was once the private secretary of former Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan. They have been booked under charges including IT Act violations, insulting womanhood, stalking, and harassment.
The FIR states that from September 14 to 18, posts carrying Shine’s name and photo, along with sexually offensive comments, were shared on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube with the intent to insult and defame her.
Speaking to the media in Paravur, Shine said she would not bow down to such slander campaigns. She revealed that a local Congress leader, who was once close to her, had privately warned that “a bomb is coming” and told her to face it bravely.
Her husband, Dyneus Thomas, alleged that the Congress party was behind the cyberattacks. He said the attacks, which were highly insulting to women, were intended to divert attention from the controversies surrounding Rahul Mamkootathil. He also pointed out that many people with links to Congress had shared the offensive posts, including senior leaders like Jinto John and B.R.M. Shafeer.
A special police team led by DySP S. Jayakrishnan will investigate the case. District Police Chief M. Hemalatha has assigned the special team for the probe.
