BARWANI: An eight-year-old girl died after a leopard attacked her in Barwani district of Madhya Pradesh. The girl identified as Geeta was killed when she was standing in the agricultural farm along with her mother in Kirta Faliya of Limbai area of Rajpur sub-division. The beast bit the child's neck and carried her to the forest area.

The villagers pursued the leopard, freed her and rushed her to the Community Health Centre, but her life could not be saved and was declared dead. The villagers protested with the body and divisional forest officer Ashish Bansod said all steps have been taken to capture the leopard. Cages and cameras have been installed in the area. The authorities informed that they are monitoring the situation 24 hours a day to prevent further accidents.

A leopard had earlier attacked a goat in the same area. The forest department is taking more security measures in this area, where human-wildlife conflict is rife. The forest department has provided financial assistance to the family of the child. This is a similar incident to the killing of a woman by a leopard in Seoni district of Madhya Pradesh in May 2025.
