"One day, my son Akhil Sathyan showed me a photo. A wedding in America, where the bride is with the man who had received the heart of her father. Then he said: There is a story in this, father..."
Sathyan Anthikad was talking about the first heartbeat of the film 'Hridayapoorvam', which is based on a heart transplant. After that picture, Sathyan Anthikad and his team searched for many people who had undergone heart transplants. The first person who came to his mind was Mathew, an auto driver from Chalakudy. Later, he remembered Haneefa from Pullut, Kodungallur, whom he met while shooting for the film Njan Prakashan. He was a heart and lung transplant recipient. A man from Kottayam had received the heart of a man named Vishnu from Kannur. Years later, when Vishnu's mother died, it was the man who had received Vishnu's heart who lit the pyre. Sathyan Anthikad recalls that the film Hridayapoorvam was born from several real-life stories like this.
Lal promoted those lives
Organ donation has become natural today. That message was promoted through actor Mohanlal. People received the film positively because it was relevant to the times. There was a meeting in Kochi between renowned heart surgeon Dr. Jose Chacko Periappuram and ten people to whom he had performed heart transplantation surgeries. When I attended it, I felt that those lives were more natural.
Some organizations that promote organ donation still call me with appreciation, making the name of that film even more meaningful.
