THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Human Rights Commission has directed the State Police Chief to conduct an investigation and submit a report within four weeks into the death of a police trainee who was found hanging in the barracks of the Peroorkada SAP camp. Commission Chairperson Justice Alexander Thomas issued the directive based on a complaint filed by Chandrika, the mother of Anand, a native of Vithura, who was found dead at the camp on September 18.

In her complaint, Chandrika alleged that the training officers verbally abused her son and insulted him using caste-based remarks. She claimed that harassment by senior officers led to her son’s death.

The complaint further stated that Anand, who belonged to a Scheduled Tribe, had been punished by his superiors and was later admitted to Peroorkada Government Hospital for treatment. He allegedly took his own life the day after being discharged from the hospital.

Chandrika also raised suspicions about the circumstances surrounding his death and demanded strict action against the officers responsible.
