'Disobeyed and interacted with grandparents'; Kochi woman detained for inflicting burn injuries on four-year-old daughter

KOCHI: A woman was arrested for burning her four-year-old daughter’s hand with a hot pan. The woman, a native of Kattithara, Maradu, was arrested. It is reported that the mother had been harassing the child for a long time. The woman will be produced in court soon. Neighbours say that the mother harassed the child due to conflicts within the family.

The cruelty was revealed when the teachers, noticing that the child was upset at school, inquired about the matter. The child told the teachers that her mother gave food to her elder brother but ignored her. When the teachers examined the child further, they found burn marks on her body. With this, the school authorities informed the police. The child had burn marks on her arms and legs, and private parts. She was then given medical assistance.

When questioned, the woman confessed that she resorted to strict punishment after the child made it a habit of disobeying her. It is reported that the mother regularly abused the child and burned her with a hot pan more than ten times. The child lived in a house with her parents, grandparents, and even her uncle and his family. It is reported that the woman maintained a hostile relationship with other members. The latest punishment for the child was after the woman found her interacting with her grandparents.
