Heavy rainfall predicted in next hours; Yellow alert issued in districts including Thiruvananthapuram

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the Indian Meteorological Department predicting heavy rainfall in the state, a yellow alert was issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts. Isolated heavy rains are likely.

A low-pressure area is present over the Kanyakumari Sea. A new low-pressure area is likely to form over the southwest Bay of Bengal by November 22 and intensify further in the next 48 hours. In this situation, the Meteorological Department warned of a possibility of light/medium rains with thundershowers in Kerala for the next five days.

The Indian Meteorological Department banned fishing along the Kerala and Lakshadweep coasts today and tomorrow, while there is no restriction on fishing along the Karnataka coast today.

Strong winds and bad weather are likely along the south Kerala coast and Lakshadweep areas today and tomorrow, with strong winds reaching 35 to 45 kmph and at times up to 55 kmph.
