NEW DELHI: A plane overshot the runway at Delhi airport. The plane landed on the take-off runway instead of the landing runway. A major accident was averted as there were no other planes on the take-off runway. The Ariana Afghan Airlines flight from Kabul overshot the runway. An investigation has been launched into the incident.
The incident took place yesterday afternoon. The Afghan plane that chose the wrong runway created a major security concern at the Delhi airport. The Ariana Afghan Airlines A310 aircraft operating flight FG-311 (Kabul-Delhi) was given clearance to land on runway 29L. However, the aircraft landed on runway 29R.
The pilot alleged that the aircraft deviated from its intended landing due to poor visibility and a malfunction in the instrument landing system. The pilot also alleged that the air traffic controllers did not warn him about this. As part of the investigation, the authorities are also examining the communication records between the pilot and the traffic controllers. The Indian Air Force will also discuss the matter with the Afghan authorities.
