KOCHI: Action against 984 vehicles for violating the law. The punishment followed an inspection conducted in Ernakulam district under the leadership of the Motor Vehicles Department.

The violations were discovered during an inspection conducted by the Central Region Deputy Transport Commissioner from October 25 to November 25 with the involvement of enforcement officers in Idukki, Kottayam and Ernakulam districts. 14 squads were formed to conduct inspections on seven routes in Kochi city. The license of a driver who drove a bus while drunk was suspended for six months and the vehicle was taken into custody. The driver's license was canceled for six months in the incident where a student fell from a moving vehicle in Vaduthala.

Action was taken against about four hundred autorickshaws operating illegally in the district using permits from other districts.

Action was taken against about fifteen bus drivers who drove dangerously. The RTO recommended to the board to take action on the permits of about forty buses that did not operate by cutting trips. The license of a driver who drove a bus in the opposite direction of the traffic and obstructed the movement of other passengers and vehicles was cancelled for three months. Action has been taken against the bus driver in the incident where a passenger fell from a private bus operating on the Kaliyar route via Muvattupuzha - Vannappuram.

Action has been taken in several cases based on the High Court's directive to take action against the licenses of drivers who drive recklessly without allowing pedestrians to cross zebra crossings.

Enforcement RTO announced that action will be taken against drivers who park buses in the middle of the road and create traffic congestion without stopping at the bus stop. He said that there has been a significant reduction in traffic violations after stricter inspections were made in Kochi city. Enforcement RTO Biju Isaac announced that inspections will continue.
