CHENNAI: Schools and colleges in Chennai will remain shut on Tuesday in the wake of heavy rains and flood warnings. The Meteorological Department predicted chances of very heavy rainfall in Thiruvallur and Chennai districts till Tuesday due to a low-pressure area in the southwest Bay of Bengal and the coasts of north Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. A flood warning and red alert were issued in both districts.

Due to the impact of Cyclone Ditwah, various parts of Tamil Nadu are experiencing heavy rains. A car got stuck in the waterlogged Poonamallee Highway in Thiruvallur. A yellow alert was issued in the districts on Tuesday. It is reported that the residential areas of Thangachimadam have been isolated due to the heavy rains for the past two days. On Monday, Chennai, Thiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Cuddalore and Ranipet areas received heavy rains. The intensity of the rain is expected to decrease in the next 24 hours.
