
KOCHI: Senior advocate of the Kerala High Court, a prominent figure in social and cultural life and the patron of the Kumbalangi South Sree Narayana Dharma Prabodhini Sabha, advocate N N Sugunapalan (86) passed away. He will be laid to rest Wednesday morning at 10.30 at the premises of his house in Kumbalangi. He died Tuesday morning while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Ernakulam.
He was a senior partner of Chandrasekaran and Chandrasekhara Menon Associates, a leading law firm in Ernakulam, for more than 40 years. He was one of the rare lawyers to have practiced in the Kerala High Court for six decades. He was the standing consul in the high court of several institutions including the Kochi, Kozhikode Airport Companies, Indian Telephone Industries, Pollution Control Board, Employees Provident Fund, Koodalamanikyam Devaswom and other central and state government institutions.
He was one of the three advisory committee members appointed by the Supreme Court to the Sivagiri Sree Narayana Dharma Sangham Trust and a member of the advisory committee of Sree Narayana movements such as Ernakulam SNV Sadanam and Aluva Sree Narayanagiri. He is the son of late Narayanan of Kumbalangi Nedunga.
Late N N Satyavrathan, a famous journalist and course director of Kerala Media Academy, late N N Ashokan, a famous doctor in Muvattupuzha, ate N N Nandini and Dr N N Shanthimathi are his siblings. He had received the NCC Best Cadet Corps Medal from Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru while studying at Maharaja's College. He leaves behind his wife Dr Mohana Sugunapalan and children Dr. Nisha, advocate Nitha and sons-in-law Sreekumar (engineer, Muscat) and advocate S Sujin (Kerala High Court).
