
KOLLAM: A youngster was arrested by police after it was found that he had brutally murdered his grandmother in Chavara Kollam. Sulekha Beevi was murdered by her grandson, Shanavas. After killing Sulekha, Shanavas hid the body under the bed. Sulkeha was found dead with her throat slashed.
The body of Sulekha Beevi (78) of Kaniyantayath house in Vattathara Chavara was found wrapped in a bedsheet under the bed. The police took her grandson Shanavas into custody. The locals prevented Shanavas's mother from attempting suicide when she learned about the incident. The initial conclusion of the police is that Shanavas committed the gore murder out of anger over his grandmother not giving him pension money to buy drugs.
Police: Hussain, the brother of Shanavas’ mother, Mumtaz, arrived at the house and noticed the door being unusually locked. Mumtaz was attending a wedding function in the neighbourhood. Hussain knocked on the door, but the door remained locked. When he looked inside, Hussain saw someone walking in the darkness. He then called for help from locals, and this time he saw Shanavas trying to run away.
Hussain and the locals, who became suspicious, caught Shanavas. The youngster was in a state of intoxication. They searched for Sulekha but could not find her. Finally, when they looked under the bed, they found her body wrapped in a bed sheet. The locals then reported the information to the Chavara police.
Mumtaz came to know about the shocking murder when she returned home after the wedding reception. The suicide attempt followed. The police took Shanavas into custody and are questioning him. There are already several criminal cases against Shanavas.
