"No airline will be permitted to cause such hardship to passengers; services are returning to normalcy"

NEW DELHI: IndiGo Airlines' services are returning to normalcy quickly, Union Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said in the Lok Sabha. He said that the country's airports are functioning normally and no airline, however large, will be permitted to cause such hardship to passengers through planning failures, non-compliance or non-adherence to statutory provisions.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has cut IndiGo's approved winter schedules by 10 per cent, citing that the airline cannot operate 15,014 weekly departures efficiently in the current situation. To avoid a repeat of the crisis, IndiGo has been instructed to reduce operations in areas where there is high demand and additional flights are required.

Meanwhile, IndiGo CEO Peter Elbers said that operations are returning to normal. He also said that full refunds are being provided to passengers whose tickets have been cancelled.

"Most of the bags stuck at airports have been delivered to your homes...We also continue to address customer needs...As of yesterday, we are back to flying to all our 138 destinations in our network...We continue to work in full cooperation with the govt...We have started to focus internally on what has led to this, lessons to be learnt and how to emerge stronger," Elbers said.
