Actor Mohanlal’s mother Santhakumari passes away

KOCHI: Actor Mohanlal’s mother passed away Tuesday afternoon. She was 90. Santhakumari breathed her last at her home in Elamakkara, Kochi. She is wife of Viswanathan Nair (late), a retired government employee. Her eldest son Pyarelal, died in 2000 due to heart issues.

Santhakumari was paralyzed and has been unwell for quite some time. She will be laid to rest tomorrow in Thiruvananthapuram.

She remained a constant source of inspiration and blessings for Mohanlal, who frequently credited her for his achievements, calling her the cornerstone of his success.

She lived a private life, largely out of the spotlight, even as her son became a superstar. Known for her deep bond with Mohanlal, fans cherished glimpses of her, especially how Mohanlal would visit her for blessings, as seen when he received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

She embodied the traditional, loving mother figure, a role often portrayed by actresses in the actor’s film, making her a symbol of maternal love for many.

Mohanlal's charitable trust, Vishwasanthi Foundation, was named after his parents.
