'I am just an ordinary citizen who pays taxes, don't spread false news'; Jayasurya responds on Save Box app investment scam case

KOCHI: Actor Jayasurya has denied reports that he has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for further questioning in the Save Box app investment scam case. Jayasurya said that the news that the ED has issued a summons to him and that he should appear again on the 7th is false. The actor clarified that he and his wife have not received any direct instructions from the ED except for receiving summons through the channel for the past two days.

"I appeared before the ED on December 24 and 29 as per the summons. However, I have not received the summons to appear again on the 7th. Can anyone guess what kind of frauds those who approach us for advertising purposes will commit tomorrow?" Jayasurya asked. The actor also said that he is just a responsible ordinary citizen who conducts all financial transactions only legally and pays his due taxes to the public exchequer.

Reports had it that the ED had summoned Jayasurya again in the Save Box app investment fraud case. The Save Box app was launched in 2019 with the promotion of buying electronic devices at low prices through online auctions. Film stars including Jayasurya were the chief guests at the app launch.

The ED suspected that Jayasurya had a contract to become the brand ambassador of Save Box. The ED concluded that the money received by Jayasurya as part of the contract was from a fraud committed by the company. Jayasurya was summoned to the Kochi ED office and questioned earlier. His wife Saritha also appeared with him.
