India expresses deep concern over Venezuela-US conflict, issues alert to citizens

NEW DELHI: India has expressed deep concern over the US military's lightning attack in Venezuela and the arrest of President Nicolas Maduro. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement that they are closely monitoring the situation in Venezuela. The Ministry of External Affairs has made it clear that India's priority is the safety and well-being of the people of Venezuela.

‘The present developments in Venezuela are extremely worrying. All parties concerned should try to resolve the issue through dialogue. All should exercise restraint to ensure peace and stability in the region,' a Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson said. The ministry of external affairs has advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel to Venezuela. The ministry added that the Indian Embassy in Caracas is in constant touch with Indian citizens there and will ensure all necessary assistance to them.

President Maduro and his wife Cilia were captured late last night in a daring raid by US Delta Force at a military complex in the Venezuelan capital, Caracas. This is the largest US military intervention in Latin America since the 1989 invasion of Panama. Maduro will be produced in the court in New York on charges of drug trafficking and terrorism conspiracy. Reports said that he will face trial on Monday.

Following Maduro's arrest, US President Donald Trump made decisive announcements at a press conference in Mar-a-Lago, Florida. Trump stated that the United States will control the government of Venezuela until a safe and transparent transition of power is possible and that he will not allow anyone who does not protect the interests of the Venezuelan people to seize power.
