‘Inhumane harassment towards girls, Rahul also committed financial fraud’; women’s commission lauds police

KOZHIKODE: State women's commission chairperson P Sathidevi responded to the third sexual abuse complaint against Rahul Mamkootathil MLA. She said that a Congress representative has been arrested in the rape case and that not only abuse but also financial fraud has taken place.

‘Women's Commission had forwarded the complaints received against Rahul to the police earlier. Many were subjected to harassment. Many were subjected to inhumane harassment. Not only harassment, but also extorted women’s money. Finally, it seems that the police have arrested the accused. It is clear that women are safe in Kerala,' added Sathidevi. She also lauded the police for arresting Rahul.

Education Minister V Sivankutty also responded to the media on Rahul's arrest. He said what Rahul did was a cruel thing and that he should resign his MLA post. Not just one or two, dozens of complaints are coming in. The Congress should take action to prevent him from using the MLA post as a cover. The minister clarified that Congress itself should take the responsibility and that the government has done everything it can.

Rahul was taken into custody by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) from KPM Hotel in Palakkad at around 12.30 early Sunday morning. The MLA was arrested in a case registered on a new complaint received via email. The case has been registered on charges of abortion and rape. The police have recorded the woman's statement. The woman has levelled serious allegations against Rahul in the complaint.
