The youth uprising against the Islamic regime in Iran has literally turned life upside down in the country. After two weeks of public anger over rising prices, the government announced that it would deploy the army and impose the death penalty. Meanwhile, US President Trump warned of an attack on Iran if the regime continues its atrocities against the protestors.

Former Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi called on protesters to intensify protests and take over the cities. The protests are very strong in more than thirty provinces. It is reported that Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is in hiding. The Gen-Z uprising in Iran is adopting an extremely violent phase. Many previous protests, including the Hijab uprising in Iran, endured a quick death after being subdued by the country’s powerful military. Although Iran is the third-largest oil producer in the world, the common people are robbed of any benefits. Due to US sanctions, Iran is unable to sell oil to any countries that are allies of the US.

The people of Iran, who lived a free life wearing the clothes of their choice during the Shah's rule, are now one of the staunchest theocratic states following the Islamic Revolution of 1979. Reza Pahlavi, the son of the Shah who was ousted at that time, has declared his readiness to return to the country and called on the people to intensify the protest. The situation in Iran, where they have to endure hunger along with the oppression of strong religious laws, has led the youth to take to the streets. The United States is using this as an opportunity to assert its dominance in the Middle East. At any moment, the United States' military intervention in Iran may occur.

Venezuela, the country with the largest oil reserves in the world, is now under the control of the United States. The next US pursuit is to bring down Iran. Trump is pursuing a policy of unilaterally destroying all the treaties and peace mechanisms established by the United States after World War II. India and Iran have warm relations. Therefore, developments in Iran will be keenly watched by New Delhi. The clerical leadership of the Shia Muslim sect, which constitutes more than 90 per cent of Iran's population, currently holds political power in Tehran. Since the youth of the same sect are now coming in droves against the regime, it can be assumed that the fall of the current religious regime is imminent.
