THAZHAVA: Sahadevan, the unsung hero behind the hit devotional song “Thulasikkathir Nulliyeduthu Kannanoru Maalaykaayi”, passed away on Thursday. He was 88. Sahadevan was a native of Thodiyoor.
In 2020, a ninth-grader named Ana Fathima, a native of Karunagappally, gained instant popularity after singing the Krishna devotional song. The views crossed a million on YouTube in no time, and most of Kerala went on humming to the tune. However, the lyricist behind the work remained in obscurity. Photographer Harris rummaged extensively and found that it was Sahadevan who penned the song almost 35 years ago.
Congratulations started showering Sahadevan from all quarters, and the late recognition befell him, much to the happiness of all.
In 2023, Sahadevan released his book that compiled his work, including songs and other writings. At the author’s insistence, Minister Radhakrishnan attended the event and released the book.
