BENGALURU: The suicide of Confident Group Chairman C J Roy was a shocking incident for the entire state. He died when the central agencies were conducting a raid at the Confident Group’s corporate office in Bengaluru. He committed suicide by shooting himself in his chest with a gun. Amidst the investigation, suspicions are being raised that Roy had decided to end his life even before the incident.
There are hints that a nine-page suicide note written by Roy was received by his family. Reports say that the income tax department’s raid had caused him severe mental stress. Some media in Karnataka reported that after this, he had called his brother over the phone on January 31.
Reports say that a note believed to have been written by him has also been obtained by the police. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) is examining it in detail. Sources indicate that the note contains certain emotional things. With detailed statements being recorded from family and employees of the company, the SIT hopes that the mystery surrounding his death will be cleared. The IT officials will be questioned again.
His family alleged that Roy took the drastic step due to pressure from the income tax department officials. Meantime, the police say that there was no argument or altercation between Roy and the income tax officials who carried out the raid just before his death. This has been confirmed from CCTV footage at the office.
The SIT is questioning the income tax department officials including the joint director. The IT officials are firm in their stand that Roy was not put under any pressure. The SIT has directed that the officials present in the office at the time of death should not leave the place. Roy’s mobile phones will also be examined. The investigation is also looking into whether there were threats from any other sources.
