KANNUR: CPM State Secretary M.V. Govindan said that the party has no hesitation in making the accounts of the collected funds public. He added that there is nothing more to say on the issue and that Kunhikrishnan, who raised the allegations, is a “closed chapter.” He was speaking in an interview given to a private television channel.
Earlier, CPM Kannur District Secretary K.K. Ragesh had said that the accounts related to the C.V. Dhanraj Martyr Fund in Payyannur would be made public. There are allegations that leaders, including MLA T.I. Madhusoodanan, had misappropriated Dhanraj Fund and election funds. The party will hold a press conference on February 6 and release the fund accounts. The decision to make the accounts public was taken as per the direction of the state leadership to clear doubts among party workers.
Earlier, district committee member V. Kunhikrishnan, who had raised allegations related to fund misappropriation, was expelled from the CPM. The action was taken, citing that he had taken a public stand that put the party on the defensive and spread false information. Meanwhile, the action against Kunhikrishnan has led to strong resentment among a section of party workers in Payyannur. At the same time, there are also party workers who oppose Kunhikrishnan.
Kunhikrishnan has alleged that large-scale misappropriation took place in the 2021 Assembly election fund and in the fund collected for the family of Dhanraj, who was killed in 2016. He claimed that out of Rs 1 crore collected, Rs 46 lakh was misappropriated by MLA T.I. Madhusoodanan and others. Kunhikrishnan also alleged that despite submitting clear documents, the party chose to protect the guilty. There are reports that Kunhikrishnan is preparing a book containing detailed information on the financial irregularities. The party leadership is said to be worried that this could put the party on the defensive in the upcoming Assembly elections.
