THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday said that the Union Budget has disappointed Kerala. He made the remarks while moving a resolution in the Kerala Assembly against what he described as the Centre’s neglect of the state.
The Chief Minister referred to the Centre’s alleged neglect in key areas such as AIIMS, the Vizhinjam port development, and the semi-high-speed rail project. He said the budget had disappointed Kerala society and amounted to a violation of federal principles.
Pinarayi Vijayan criticised the Centre for not approving an AIIMS for Kerala despite the state having identified suitable land. "The country can stand tall only when the status of the states is secure. Even Kerala’s legitimate demands have not received due consideration from the Centre," he said.
“For years, the Centre has shown neglect towards Kerala’s genuine demands. This year’s budget has disappointed the people of Kerala. The Centre’s actions are lowering the country’s dignity before the global community and have even raised doubts about democratic values. Kerala has achieved commendable progress that has earned global recognition. Development should reach all parts of the country, beyond regional differences. The Centre continues to remain silent on granting AIIMS to Kerala, despite land being identified,” the Chief Minister said.
