KOLLAM: Kottarakkara police registered a case in the incident of the headmistress of the Easwaravilasam Higher Secondary School (EVHSS), Neduvathoor, being denied entry for wearing a churidar. The police registered an FIR against the school's security guard, Shashankan, on the complaint of the head teacher, Sindhu S. Nair, a native of Kottarakkara Avanoor. Shashankan was dismissed from his job following the incident.
A case was registered under sections 126(2) and 79 of the IPC for obstruction and defamation. The incident took place at 8.45 am on Wednesday. The security guard stopped the headmistress by closing the school gate when she got down from the auto with eggs, meant for the midday meal scheme. Shashankan closed the gate, saying that the manager had instructed not to allow anyone wearing a churidar. When the headmistress protested by sitting on the floor, the police and PTA officials arrived and made arrangements for her to enter the school.
The manager, K. Suresh Kumar, had directly instructed the headmistress the day before not to wear a churidar and instead choose a saree. The security guard stopped the headmistress after he received instructions. However, the manager said that he had not instructed the security guard to stop the headmistress. The manager admitted that he might have jokingly told the headmistress to come wearing a saree. No case has been filed against the manager.
Meanwhile, the Kerala Women's Commission suo motu registered a case in the incident. The Kottarakkara District Education Officer has been directed to submit an urgent report on the matter.
