AHMEDABAD: A student slapped a teacher who questioned him for arriving late to an exam. The incident took place on January 24 at S.J. Dave High School in Panchmahal, Gujarat. The accused is an 18-year-old student, Mohammed Khan Ansari. CCTV footage showing the student slapping the teacher has gone viral, leading to widespread protests against the student.

Ansari was reportedly angered after the teacher questioned him for arriving late to his Class 12 exam. He allegedly said that no one at his home questions him and asked who she was to question him, before slapping her.

Although the student’s father visited the teacher on the same day to apologise, police said that on January 27, the student returned to the school with about 20 people and allegedly threatened to harm the teacher, who lives alone.

The teacher filed a police complaint on February 3, following which Ansari was arrested. Police also took him to the scene of the incident and made him walk in public as part of the investigation, officials said. Last Friday, the court granted him bail.
