THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The dispute between SFI and the Vice Chancellor at the University of Kerala turned worse after Vice Chancellor Dr Mohanan Kunnummal issued an order dissolving the current university union. The VC also announced that a general council will be formed for the election of a new union.
The university termed the process of nullifying the union a 'normal one' since the term of the union already ended. The VC also clarified that there is already a delay in electing the new union. According to the Vice Chancellor, the last university arts festival was held last April during the term of the previous union and assured that the next festival will be under a new governing body.
Meanwhile, SFI called the VC’s action to nullify the union a revenge bid. Students are still protesting at the university headquarters over not holding the arts festival and not granting TA to sports students. It is noteworthy that the VC’s decision to dissolve the union came after the clash between police and SFI. According to the Vice Chancellor, two art festivals cannot be held under one governing body. However, SFI alleged the Vice Chancellor was depriving the students of their rights.
