NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court strongly criticized advocate Deepa Joseph, accused in the case of insulting the survivor in the case involving Rahul Mamkootathil MLA. The Supreme Court's criticism was while considering Deepa's plea. The Supreme Court said that the words used by Deepa were shocking.
'Aren't you a practicing lawyer? The Facebook post contains defamatory remarks. Should we read what you wrote publicly? If a man had made the remarks, he would have been arrested immediately. You get consideration only because you are a woman. Are you the public advocate of the accused?' the court asked.
P V Dinesh, K R Subhas Chandran and Krishna Aniruddha appeared for the survivor. The police registered a case against advocate Deepa for insulting the first survivor in Rahul’s case. Chief Justice Suryakant asked her using such language on social media despite being a lawyer. However, Deepa informed the court that she had not revealed the name of the survivor or made any bad remarks. When Deepa argued that she said what the survivor's husband had said, the court asked whether it was right to write everything on social media even if the husband had said it. After clarifying that action was not taken considering being a woman, the court dismissed her plea and asked her to approach the high court.
