KOCHI: The High Court ordered a detailed investigation into Bengaluru native Suraj Lama’s shocking death in Kochi. The incidents from Suraj Lama's arrival in Nedumbassery on October 5 to his death in an abandoned bush in Kalamassery should be investigated in detail. The order was pronounced after the postmortem report could not ascertain the cause of the death. The investigation should be led by the Police Commissioner or an officer of equivalent rank. The possibility of murder should also be examined. A division bench comprising Justice Devan Ramachandran and Justice M.B. Snehalatha opined that no other Indian should go through a similar situation in Kerala.
The Nedumbassery SHO presented the interim postmortem report. The court was considering the habeas corpus petition filed by Suraj Lama's son, Santon Lama, at the time he went missing. The DNA test confirmed that the body belonged to Suraj Lama. The cremation was also conducted. However, the court directed a detailed investigation, stating that the family deserve justice. Suraj Lama’s body was found on November 30, with the face submerged in water in a bush in Kalamassery. The case will be considered again after three weeks.
