Court orders woman to pay Rs 8 lakh compensation to ex-husband

KANNUR: The court has ordered a divorced woman to pay compensation of Rs 8 lakh to her ex-husband. According to Muslim law, a divorced woman should pay a compensation to her ex-husband. Kannur Family Court Judge R L Baiju delivered the verdict on the complaint filed by a native of Chala. The verdict is that the gold ornaments given by her husband at the time of marriage or its value should be given.


The petitioner married a native of Pappinissery on June 17, 2022. The youth was working in New Zealand at the time of marriage. After marriage, he had even booked flight tickets to take his wife to New Zealand. However, when his wife refused to travel, the youth found himself in a difficult situation. Later, after informing that she had divorced him under the Islamic legal procedure Khula, the woman re-married. The youth then approached the family court. The court ordered her to give 75.524 grams of gold including mahr or pay Rs 7,22,212.
